11 crazy facts you didn’t know about David Guetta
It has been 7 years since the last time David Guetta played at a Dutch outdoor music festival. It’s one of the reasons we’re very happy that he’s playing at this year’s Dance Valley 25th anniversary edition. He is, without a doubt, one of the most famous DJ’s on earth. Yet, still, there’s a few crazy Guetta-facts that you probably did not know yet…
1. We’re flying hiiiiiigh
David Guetta once hosted a big surprise party in an airplane. In collaboration with the Spanish airline Vueling, the passengers of the plane were treated with a banger, 10km up in the air. Can you imagine? Halfway through your boring flight, suddenly David Guetta starts playing?
2. Spacing out
So, he did an airplane party, check. But that’s still not enough for the French virtuoso. Guetta has a dream and it’s playing in space. Maybe not the most realistic idea he has, but still a big dream. He played at club Space in Ibiza every once in a while and we’re afraid it’s the closest to space he’ll get, for the time being…
3. Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Did you know that Thomas Bangalter, one half of the French superstar duo Daft Punk, is the reason that David Guetta became popular in the first place? He kind of discovered him. In the early ’00, Guetta played one of his new tracks to him, after they met in the Parisian club scene. Bangalter sent this track to Virgin Records and not long after that David Guetta signed a big record deal.
4. David GuettApp
In 2010 Guetta lanced an app. The app’s name actually wasn’t David GuettApp, it was named Electrobeats. With the app you could easily remix existing tracks. Unfortunately, copycat apps did way better than Guetta’s inventive app.
5. “I don’t need anything”
Something people usually don’t expect when it comes to famous DJ’s, but David Guetta doesn’t actually live the rockstar life. He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke and doesn’t do any drugs. Although being surrounded by people who do constantly, he easily manages to ignore all the temptations. He once said: “Some people need drink or drugs to open themselves to music but I don’t need anything.”
6. Sneaker freak
What do you do when you more money than you can spend? If your name is David Guetta, you know. It’s buying shoes. A sh*tload of shoes.
7. Inspiration’s in the air
Some artists lock themselves up in a studio, others book trips to remote places to get inspired. David Guetta does things slightly different. He writes his songs during flights in airplanes. The lack of internet, cellular reception and meetings makes it the perfect place for him to focus on his music.
Already at 14 years old Guetta organized little beach parties. Himself and some friends used to play sets there. It was at that young age that he already realized what he wanted to be: a DJ.
DJ’s are artists, just as other musicians are. But did you know that David Guetta is also a big art lover? When he’s on tour around the world, he always visits a few museums along the way. He’s favourite museums are Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art and Paris’ Pompidou.
10. Guys.. There’s a horse in the club
A horse? Yes. A horse. In 2015 Guetta brought a horse to his show in Club Pachá in Ibiza. The World Animal Protection didn’t quite like it and filed a few complaints. After that Guetta decided to leave the horse in its stable, instead of bringing it to a club.
11. France, or Dubai?
David Guetta was born in Paris and it’s well-known that he has a holiday home in Ibiza, where he performs a lot. But did you know that if he wants to retreat to catch his breath, he also has a nice and quiet place in Dubai?Get one of the last Dance Valley 2019 tickets here!
